What are you reading at the moment?
The visual and cultural feast that is the Larousse Book of Wine. Wine exams are looming but the truth is that I just love that book.
What have you just finished reading?
Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang. An astonishing book that tells a rich, compelling and frequently harrowing story. It also tells a tremendous history of the remarkable structure and foundation of China.
What will you read next?
Malcolm Gluck’s The Great Wine Swindle. A book that aims to bell the cat in a world of smoke and mirrors. A family friend once said to me ‘There are lies, damn lies and then there is the whisky industry’. Is the wine world so different?
Which author do you have a crush on?
Antony Sher because of his book Year of the King. It gave me the most tremendous insight into the process of acting, something which I really had no real understanding of until reading his book. I think mentally my balls dropped afterwards too.
What’s the sexiest thing you’ve ever read?
Candy by Southern and Hoffenberg. Nothing heightens the senses like the suspicion or the knowledge that what you are doing is forbidden. In fact, just owning a copy of the book makes me very aroused. I haven’t read it for years though…
Which book would you give someone you’re trying to impress?
The Book of Shadows by Don Paterson.
