What are you reading at the moment?
Austerlitz, W.G. Sebald. This book is like a warm, gentle rain of facts, places, words. More about rhythm and perception than anything else.
What have you just finished reading?
I was given Stoner, John Edward Williams, by my neighbour with a sweet handwritten note. It was the first time in years that I couldn’t put a book down. Still reading while leaving the tube. Maybe Stoner explores human impotence and cruelty with such gentle love that it’s infectious?
What will you read next?
I’ve got The Gift by Lewis Hyde next to my bed. Looking forward to it.
Which author do you have a crush on?
Sort of Zadie Smith, whenever I read one of her essays. There’s something about her tone which makes me feel in a conversation, or at the beginning of a conversation. Both of which serious crush-material. And she’s hot.
What’s the sexiest thing you’ve ever read?
Opus Pistorum by Henry Miller. What happens in the desert stays in the desert.
Which book would you give someone you’re trying to impress?
An Exaltation of Larks, James Lipton, for those who love English. London – A Biography, for those who love London. Haunts of the Black Masseur for those who love swimming. Etc.
