Good evening fight fans! Tonight, Book Slam heads to iconic East London boxing venue, York Hall, for the most anticipated heavyweight contest in recent memory and twelve rounds (probably) of high calibre literary sparring. In the blue corner, we have internationally renowned storyteller, one-time street brawler, drug dealer, convict, Chicago Golden Glove Champion, bull runner and author of ‘The Old Neighborhood‘, BILL HILLMANN. In the red corner, please make some noise for guitarist from The Slits, punk legend and author of the memoir, ‘Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys.‘, VIV ALBERTINE. And our referee for this evening’s entertainment from Edinburgh, Scotland, by way of Chicago, Illinois, the man behind ‘Trainspotting‘, ‘Porno‘ and, now, ‘The Sex Lives Of Siamese Twins‘, the Leith Lightning himself, IRVINE WELSH. Plus, JUNIOR ‘THE HITTER’ WITTER, World Champion boxer; unbeaten prospect, ATIF ‘UNIQUE’ SHAFIQUE; and the Hype Dance Company presenting an excerpt from a new piece of theatre, ‘Savage Beauty’. Warming up the crowd is our favourite ex-battle rapper, DOC BROWN, building them to a frenzy with an invigorating dose of reality is our old friend, KATE TEMPEST - the first time we’ve welcomed her back to Book Slam since her Ted Hughes Award. Good food available. Let’s get ready to rumble!
