About
The Omnivore
The Omnivore is a site for people who like books. Whatever the format.
Find your next read, or e-read, with the help of our press roundups and curated reading lists. We scour newspapers, magazines and literary journals to bring you a cross section of intelligent opinion on all the latest fiction and non-fiction.
And there’s lots more. Keep up to date with our literary calendar, discover new indie authors, find love with the Omnivore Pin-up, and see who’s in the running for our Hatchet Job of the Year Award.
Sign up to our newsletter, The Omnivore Digest, for news, reviews and prizes.

The Omniscore
In our press roundups we quote from and link to each review. We also give them all a star rating — except in the cases where the publication has its own. We take the average of these ratings, which range from 1 (hatchet job) to 5 (praised to high heaven), to calculate the Omniscore. The Omniscore system is only supposed to be very approximate and certainly not a substitute for reading the entire review. Take it with a very large pinch of salt.
The Omnivore Archive
Our sister site, The Omnivore Archive, is a database of newspaper book reviews. It contains review quotes and links for more than 7,000 fiction and non-fiction titles published since 2008. If you can’t find the book you’re looking for here, you might be able to find the press roundup at The Omnivore Archive.
The Hatchet Job of the Year Award
Brought to you by The Omnivore, the Hatchet Job of the Year Award is for the writer of the angriest, funniest, most trenchant book review of the past twelve months. It aims to raise the profile of professional critics and to promote integrity and wit in literary journalism. Find out more at the Hatchet Job of the Year site.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The Omnivore is always willing to sell its soul. If you’re interested in sponsoring our fortnightly newsletter The Omnivore Digest or the annual Hatchet Job of the Year, please contact us for more information contact@theomnivore.com.
